• Site Analysis: Conduct site visits and review geographical and environmental factors for proposed development projects.

• Design of Plot Plans: Develop and modify plot plans/layouts for residential, commercial, or industrial developments, ensuring compliance with zoning codes, municipal requirements, and industry standards.

• Land Use Analysis: Work with project managers, architects, and engineers to determine land use requirements for different areas within the site.

• Utility Layouts: Coordinate with utility designers (water, sewage, storm drainage, electrical) to integrate the proper placement of utilities within the plot design.

• 2. Road Design:

• Roadway Planning: Design roads and access points for various projects, ensuring that they are appropriately sized, functional, and safe for intended traffic volume.

• Alignment and Profile Design: Prepare road alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and grading plans.

• Pavement Design: Develop design specifications for pavements, ensuring compliance with local standards and regulations.

• Stormwater Management: Plan drainage systems along roadways to manage stormwater runoff effectively.

• Traffic Flow Analysis: Work closely with traffic engineers to ensure that roads and access points provide proper traffic flow, taking into account safety and capacity.

• 3. Collaboration and Coordination:

• Cross-Disciplinary Communication: Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, planners, and environmental consultants to ensure integrated and coordinated designs.

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to local zoning laws, environmental regulations, and other legal requirements (e.g., permitting processes).

• Client Liaison: Regularly update clients on project status and incorporate feedback into plot plans or road designs as necessary.

• 4. Drafting and Documentation:

• CAD Design: Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other drafting software to create detailed design drawings for plot plans and road layouts.

• Preparation of Reports: Prepare technical reports for regulatory approvals, including environmental impact assessments, site analysis, and engineering justification.

• Document Control: Maintain accurate records and files of designs, revisions, and project-related correspondence.

• 5. Construction Support:

• Site Supervision: Assist in monitoring the construction process to ensure that the plot plans and road designs are being implemented accurately.

• Construction Drawings: Provide construction drawings and assist contractors with any clarifications regarding design specifications.

• Troubleshooting: Address on-site issues related to road construction, grading, or layout design.

• 6. Quality Assurance and Risk Management:

• Quality Control: Review and evaluate design work to ensure it meets all quality standards and specifications.

• Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify potential design or construction issues and propose solutions to mitigate risks.

• 7. Continuous Learning & Development:

• Staying Updated: Keep up with new developments in road design, plotting software, and relevant local/national regulations.

• Training and Mentoring: Mentor junior designers or drafters on best practices for CSA plot plans and road design.

• Educational Background: Typically a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or related fields. Some positions may accept technical diplomas with extensive experience.

• Experience: 3–5 years of experience in civil design, preferably in plot planning and road design.

• Software Proficiency: Strong experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other GIS and design software.

• Knowledge: Understanding of local zoning regulations, road design standards, stormwater management, and construction methodologies.

• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies.
